I N T R O D U C T I O N  

                                            The Islamia College of Commerce, Lahore was established in 1966 to impart commerce education upto intermediate level (I.Com). The college was elevated to Degree level in 1970 and B.Com. Degree course was introduced during the session (1970-72). The affiliation of the University of the Punjab was granted in year 1970. The college stood nationalized with effect from 1-09-1972. Henceforth, it continues to work under the aegis of the Education Department of the Government of the Punjab.

Efforts for the Post Graduation

                                               The practical steps were taken in the year 1976 to upgrade the college to Post Graduate Level by discontinuing its I.Com. classes as pre-requisite for the Post Graduation. The classes along with teachers, Library Books, and furniture were shifted to Govt., M.A.O. College Lahore. Since then the college has only the Bachelor Class (B.Com) in addition to its recently introduced Post Graduate classes in commerce (M.Com.) the No Objection Certificate was granted by Secretary Education, Govt., of the Punjab vide memo No. S.O. (Colleges) 01/12/1988 dated 25th August, 1992.

The Affiliation Process

                                                The affiliation case was submitted to the Registrar, University of the Punjab, Lahore through Director of Education (Colleges) Lahore Division Lahore vide D.E. (Colleges) Memo No. 4932/Admn(M) dated 29th March, 1992. The University authorities were kind enough to issue demand notice for the deposit of Rs. 5,000 as inspection fee for the addition in affiliation to teach M.Com. classes at the college. The required fee was deposited with the Habib Bank University of the Punjab Branch, Lahore. The Affiliation Committee unanimously approved the case for grant of affiliation in its meeting held on 14th March 1995 and granted addition in affiliation to teach M.Com. classes at the college was granted by University of the Punjab vide its No. 3110/P dated 30th December 1995.

Extension in Building

                                                Although the present building has a separate Post Graduate wing comprising class rooms, Post Graduate Library having 13,000 books in addition to recent arrival Quaid-e-Azam Seminar Hall with 5study rooms one each for 4 Associate Professors and the Chairman M.Com. Department. The Education Department has also approved a plan for construction of 6 rooms on 1st floor of the existing building.

Separate Post Graduate Block

                                                Plans are underway for approval of construction of the proposed Post Graduate Block on 33 Kanal piece of land already available, adjacent to our present under graduate block.

General Library

                                                The general library is housed in a spacious hall at ground floor of the College building. It is exclusively open for the B.Com. Students. It has 7,500 books. Mr. Asghar Ali Awan (certificate in Library Sciences) has been deputed to provide necessary services to undergraduates. The development process is being geared up for this Library.

Post Graduate Library

                                                Separate Library has been established to facilitate the Post Graduate students. Sheikh Muhammad Nasir (M.A. Library Science) has been deputed to regulate the Post Graduate library and Quaid-e-Azam Seminar Reference Section. The Post Graduate library has 13,000 volumes mostly foreign. The books (all foreign) up to the value of Rs. 1,50,000 has been added to this library recently.

Dars-e-Quran

                                                 Special arrangements have been made to impart Dars-e-Quran on 1st & 15th of each month to inculcate better understanding  of the Holy Quran and Islamic Theology.

College Magazine

                                                Al-Maishiat the magazine of the college is published once a year. The Editorial Board consists of the student Editors and Staff Advisors. Prof., Zahid Azmi is the "Chief Editor" of the Al-Maishiat.

College Societies

The college has the following societies:

  1. The Majlis-e-Iqbal.
  2. The Commerce Society.
  3. The Debating Society.
  4. The English Literacy Society.
  5. The Quiz Society.
  6. The Photographic Society.
  7. The Excursion Society.

The College Council

                                                   The College Council is constituted in accordance with the Punjab University Calendar and is Supreme body to decide all the disciplinary cases constituted against the students on breach of college rules and regulations. The decision of the College Council consists of the following members:

  1. Principal (Chairman College Council)
  2. Vice Principal (Secretary)
  3. Two Senior Members of the Teaching Staff (members)
  4. Ex-Officio member, Chief Proctor/DPE/Controller of Exams./Staff Secretary/In charge Hostel/The prof., concerned (one of the above listed officers shall act as Ex-Officio member of the College Council in view of the nature of the case being put up before the council)
